What do you see?
What tunes would you play?
What would you paint on a piano if you could?
Today I painted another piano. I never learned to play one, but I've sure had a great time playing on them with my paint. This new work is part of a fundraiser benefit for wounded warriors that the Steinway Piano Gallery of Commerce Twp. (Michigan) will begin in January. The owner like the piano I painted featuring kids making music (on my Ypsilanti page), and after meeting him this past week I was offered this commission. Stars and stripes and hearts is inspired by a flag painting by Peter Max, whom the owner admires. I was given freedom to take it where I was inspired to artistically. I look at it and see the influence of Jim Dine, and my fondness for layering color and images. More photos showing part of the process and details are on my art Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Debra-J-Golden-Artworks/117936561599336 What do you see? What tunes would you play? What would you paint on a piano if you could? I got more request for my sleeping snowman.....many different interpretations; beauty and meaning are both in the eyes of the beholder. Do you have a pose to suggest? I've added more images on zazzle and am not quite sure if I am embedding things correctly. From all my collage I should know cut and paste -right? http://www.zazzle.com/djsgoldenart. This site makes it easier to offer option of mugs, posters, etc. If you are local and want cards, then of those I have printed I can deliver them to you or come pick them up and have a glass of eggnog with me. <embed src="http://www.zazzle.com/utl/getpanel?tl=djsgoldenart%27s%20Store%20at%20Zazzle&ch=djsgoldenart&st=POPULARITY" FlashVars="path=http://www.zazzle.com/assets/swf/zp/skins" width="450" height="300" wmode="transparent" /> I needed a break from the serious this week: from cold reality, too much hard news, striving for higher goals, and trying to make sense of the senseless. A friend shared a silly picture of an upside down snowman and I went for it. There's no snow here....yet, but that didn't stop my mind from imagining what could happen. Take one reverse snowman and add some onlookers. Oh dear. What will the neighbors think? Remember the cartoon strip 'Calvin and Hobbes'? Oh those bizarre scenes little Calvin cooked up. Were you ever tempted to recreate one of those? The next 'silly snowman' I painted is reclining in the snow. Too much eggnog? Too much heavy snow and your back says enough - and there is a sleeping - or just chillin' snowman. Time spent with children this week (my pageant performers rocked !) was healing. A little infant sibling dressed as Santa had the spirit. Toddlers surrounding me as I motioned out cues in the front row were transfixed by the action. Birthday party with a fairy theme helped with it's own magic. May you find time for a bit of whimsy. There is still joy to be found. If you get enough snow, please make the best of it. Build something wild and hilarious with a child (or your inner child) and share. And until there is real snow - I'll imagine more happy possibilities. Chloe in red basket While painting cards for the holidays and prepping my lesson on painting animals for my watercolor class, I came across a painting of Chloe - one of my cat's and a popular model. She - like so many cats - loves to sit in boxes and baskets. Sister Callie Sue swears she still fits in her kitten sized boxes as fur and more fluffs over the sides. Chloe loves to sit in my art bin (the tackle box like container for carrying my brushes, paints, and palette. She fits just right in the lid when it's open. The cat in the basket was okay, but adding more gifts in the background adds to the story. It also fits with my style and favored technique of pulling images out of the background. I plan to print this as note cards and send as thank you's. So - what do you think Chloe is thinking? Would your pet make a fun model? Today I am finally doing it - putting it out there for the public to buy online. Nervous ? Oh yeah! Easy? Moderately. Involved? oooooh yes. Details and account numbers and confirmation and cross checking, but it is happening. It's going to take some time to correctly upload images, but you can help. How ? Come on over and encourage me while sipping tea or whatever while I work away - or - let me know which images you would like to see. Fingers crossed that it works out correctly and a few (okay - a lot) enjoy my work and get cards, then prints, mugs, etc. djsgoldenart is my Zazzle.com store name The percentage is tiny for those who inquire about selling cards, but it is a start. Now - must head off to the local printer to check on proof of a custom card (to left) and then to teach class. Thanks for reading. |
