The Patio was a lot of fun to paint, and the "yarn bombed" post caught my eye. I initially pained the railing all around, but washed it away in front of my students to show how to correct a painting that isn't working, and keep the focus on the patio and patrons.
I'm painting more scenes of my town, Ypsilanti, and having fun with new views of familiar spots. The Sidetrack, pictured above, is famous for it's burgers (blue cheese, medium well for me, thanks!) and is a very popular destination. As I take photos, sometimes on bended knee to get a cool angle, people dash out of the way, so I have to invent people like the guy in the sweater. Some of the scenes began as demos for my classes, and many are now prints available at the Eyrie, next door to them on Cross St. in Depot Town.
