Winter term classes ended last week for my Watercolor Classes at Washtenaw Community College, and on this confused 'spring' day in Michigan it is snowing on the daffodils. The painting was a demo for the continuing painting class with hats and scarves as our subject. The ordinary worked well as a challenge to observe and paint fabric, textures, and shadows. I added a book, "Snowy Day", to complete the composition, add some warmth, and add to the story. The beginning watercolor class painted tulips a bit ahead of season, and the white blooms were a great opportunity to illustrate subtle color and value changes to create depth. I chose the rose warmed with gamboge to pop the white flowers and green leaves. Vary greens for interest and fullness. I love painting spring blooms to keep the season alive year 'round.
